Our territory is rich in cultural initiatives and we are pleased to point out this decidedly special film festival because it was founded and organized by the famous director Marco Bellocchio. In August, the town of Bobbio hosts the highly anticipated Film Festival which includes film screenings and debates in the presence of actors, directors, critics and film producers.
Bobbio Film Festival
When: from 28 July to 6 August 2023
Where: Cloister of San Colombano
The initiative started way back in 1995 thanks to an idea by director Marco Bellocchio, a native of the Emilian village and awarded, in 2021, the Golden Palm for Lifetime Achievement during the 74th Cannes Film Festival.
The festival, which includes film screenings open to the public, is accompanied by the "Fare Cinema" courses aimed at young and future filmmakers, critics and screenwriters.
The valuable element of this important film festival lies in the after-screening, when maestro Bellocchio, sometimes together with a film critic, meets the director and the actors of the film in a participatory dialogue with the audience.
Growing more and more in importance, in 2005 the event changed its name and officially became the Bobbio Film Festival.
In such a long span of time, numerous actors and directors have taken part in the Bobbio review to present their film, or debate some of the topics touched upon by the various films: from the director of the Venice Film Festival Marco Müller to the critics Morando Morandini and Tatti Sanguineti; from directors Mario Monicelli, Abel Ferrara, Zhang Yuan, to Carlo Verdone, Paolo Sorrentino, Matteo Garrone. Among the actors, the names of Stefania Sandrelli, Valeria Golino, Sergio Castellitto, Isabella Ferrari, Donatella Finocchiaro, Corrado Guzzanti, Elio Germano and Riccardo Scamarcio stand out.
The screenings traditionally take place in the cloister of the Abbey of S. Colombano.
